Well, I'm beat. Even though it was my day off.

The dogs have a new thing: they like to dictate my schedule. At 10 PM the St. Bernard decides it's time to go to bed. But he doesn't want to go alone; so if I don't escort him into the bedroom and then get in bed, he cries. He comes back out into the family room and lies down, whining piteously.

And at 6AM, the puppy starts barking. She has a particularly shrill, high-pitched bark. And at 6:30AM the St. Bernard starts whining, too.

I really should have taken a nap today.

Instead I went into the city, hung out at a coffee shop and cranked through most of my book-club book (Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories), went to lunch with an old friend, and then did some shopping downtown. I should not be so tired.

I am going to have to explain to my sister why I felt the need to break into her Glenlivet.

Grrrr. Just got a letter from my new pharmacy benefits management (CVS Caremark) informing me that FOR MY OWN GOOD (BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT) they are implementing the following things: (1) I need prior authorization for certain classes of drugs. Now, that's not "we have to approve expensive med over cheap one", that's "if you want ACNE MEDICATION, we have to approve it first". (2) Quantity controls "to make sure you're treating yourself with the appropriate levels of medication" for things including migraine drugs. FUCK YOU CVS. FUCK YOU WITH A RUSTY CHAINSAW. WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO TELL ME HOW MANY MIGRAINES I GET A MONTH?!!

Etc. etc. I am so pissed.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I had a (probably temporary) pet/sleep victory this week: On I think Wednesday, I had a Serious Talk with the cat about not waking me up at 5 or 6 am anymore, and he hasn't done it the last couple of mornings! I think he really heard me.

Oh grrr, meara! Wouldn't it be terrible if there were bureaucrats in between you and your healthcare??

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

We have CVS Caremark too, and they're totally shitty.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I love this guy's mockery of women on fantasy book covers. So much that I'd even think about reading his books. Well played, author, well played.

Oh, if ONLY.

We have CVS Caremark too, and they're totally shitty.

Oh, god, I really wish I could get back on Kaiser. I'm terrified I'll be stuck on BC/BS forever...

... someone's not reading my LJ. ::pouts:: Anyway, Jim Hines' books are pretty good, but not (sadly) as good as his LJ. Good ideas, but the execution's a bit shaky. That said, I love the idea of Libromancer, and will totally be buying it.

Also, I think this link is even better, because she compares covers with men to covers with women, and does a pretty thoughtful analysis of the differences: [link]

Yeah--I mean, I don't love any benefits managing company, and I already KNOW they will only give me so much of a drug per month, but to send me a shitty condescending letter about how it's for my own good? Pisses me right the fuck off.
