Sorry, sarameg. Stupid is crappy.

Oh, wow, I've got the Doctor Who Christmas special on in the background, and I just caught a callback to Nine. Aw. And awesome.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Someone tell me to stop arguing with my brother's gf about the Texas ulstrasound/abortion law.

(She's a lefty treehugger so we're on the same side, only somehow it's turned into an argument about how the law is bad because transvaginal ultrasound is rape. Which, no. NO NO NO. And I'm pretty sure I'm the only person on the comment thread who's ever been pregnant, so everyone else is coming at this from the perspective of having just found out about the dildocam and being understandably grossed out But seriously, no, the dildocam is not the problem with this law so stfu.)

(The other problem is that I was exactly like her at that age. So I'm arguing with a younger version of myself an SHE IS SO FUCKING CLUELESS AND STUBBORN.)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Bryan Ferry just married his son's ex-girlfriend. I'm so "Huh?" about the objective immovable disapproval many people are expressing. If the son doesn't care, why do I get a vote? Isn't this a case-by-case thing?

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Jessica,

I understand your points and while I tentatively agree, as someone who had such an ultrasound because of "female" problems, it was NOT a pleasant experience. I get that pregnant women get prodded and poked, but do they need to have this additional physical prodding against their will as well?

Trust my rage

I'm confused - Texas has a law the requires a transvaginal ultrasound against someone's will?

Full-on ms. Plus stupid hot pool and stupid work.

transvaginal ultrasound is rape

What? Wait, OK, I know nothing about the law, is her stance due to some requirement of the law that there be a transvaginal ultrasound before an abortion can be performed (I'm so COMPLETELY guessing here, please understand)? So, essentially, taking consent out of the equation for having your vagina... transed... by a dildocam if you want an abortion? Therefore, rape? Again, totally guessing, but curious so I can form a coherent thought.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Stephanie,

yes. in order to get an abortion, women must have the ultrasound whether they want one or not.
