Because books.

WTF? Why would anyone have to destroy anything?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

WTF.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Oh god, I stopped breathing for a moment when I saw that picture. How unbelievably awful.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

right? I saw that earlier on Regretsy and Boing Boing and I just could not believe it. I get that they have a rule that fake goods should be destroyed, but they aren't law enforcement and don't have the means of discerning whether a RARE musical instrument is faked or not.

Besides, the instrument did play music so it wasn't like a block of wood or something even if it wasn't exactly what the seller claimed.

I am pretty outraged. Needless destruction.

The question is, what's a reasonable alternative to PayPal? There's nothing else, is there?

There are a few alternative services, but they're not anywhere near as useful as PayPal. Nearly everyone takes PayPal.

hwæt

Banks in the US are just now starting to let people send funds via email. A system for that has been in place in Canada for a while.

Amy,

when I can, I use Amazon payments but that perhaps isn't the best way for things like ebay. It's been a long time since I used ebay.

Square looks like something I would want (and their card case app): [link]

but that isn't ideal for something like ebay.
