I am suspicious of the guy returning the laptop bag and think the cops should be altered to him in case he is actually involved and not another victim.
Back in college (for context, in Boston in the late '80s), someone broke into my friend's car and LEFT a briefcase. I don't think they even took anything from my friend's car (there wasn't anything to take of any value I'm sure) but just left the briefcase. So we opened it and from the papers in it figured out who owned it and called the guy. A group of us went out to where he lived and returned it to him. We took the precaution of going in a group (and dressed like ninjas and made "weapons" out of office supplies...we may have been a little high when we formulated the plan). Anyway, he was very grateful and we had drinks and watched David Letterman at his house. The End!
I've had my car broken into when there was NOTHING not even change visible. and they took nothing just left me with a broken window to deal with. Irritating enough.
My paternal grandparents actually died a week apart. We are convinced that my grandfather, who was actually much sicker than my grandmother, held on to make sure she was taken care of through the end. And then to see my family, in Texas for her funeral. He went out with us the night before my brother was heading back, ate a steak and drank a beer, and died that evening. He was a man with a very strong will, I'll tell you what.
A friend of mine found his stolen VW Rabbit on the street near where it had been taken from, so that ended happier for him. In addition, the car was cleaner than when it had been taken (not hard to do if you're this friend) AND it had a nice set of tools in the back seat.
I wouldn't have believed it if it hadn't happened to a friend I know well.
I had my truck broken into when it was parked behind my apartment in El Cerrito. Only thing visible was a paper bag with stuff in it, but that was enough enticement. Nevermind that all that was in the bag was all my wedding day underpinnings. Guess the thief wanted some plus sized hose, functional corset, shoes, hoop skirt, and other such non-oooooh stuff. That was a couple of weeks before the wedding (had just gone for a fitting) and we were able to get the stuff replaced. That was over 20 years ago and I'm still all wtf over it.
I am not a blingy person, but I am entranced by the Elizabeth Taylor jewels. They're so...alien. And opulent. But alien.
I'm the person who yells at people in the alley. Suffice to say, I'd be both the person returning found items and the one who went to retrieve them when contacted...
Deck furniture oiled, laundry is ALL DONE and bed made up. All of my planned chores for this 4 day weekend done. Now I can figure out if I want to go buy some shelves or sort through my closets or whatever.
My house smells pleasantly of lindseed oil. It's a comforting smell.
My car got broken into in my driveway a few weeks ago. It wasn't "broken" so much as "hacked", though. I remember the night before I discovered it seeing outside a little red light, briefly, and thinking someone might be out there with a device of some sort. I decided not go outside to find out. I figure it was one a' them things that unlock cars that lock via remote. The thieves took a bunch of change, my cellphone charger, and my old GPS unit. They made a mess, but they didn't take my sunglasses or my little good-luck Buddha. (I would have been more annoyed over the loss of the Buddha than the TomTom.) I bought a new cellphone charger and a new GPS and wrote it off as the cost of living in a high-tech society. Even petty thieves have high-tech devices.
I was briefly worried that the TomTom had addresses on it, then I realized there wasn't anything a thief could do with those addresses that he couldn't have accomplished with a phone book. He'd just wipe the memory and sell it. I hope he bought his kid a Christmas present with the money.
Start as you mean to go on, right??
I absolutely took this to heart today. I started the morning slounging and watching Community, then I went to Target to apply for a red card and get some house stuff. Then I went to the house to do some minor lawn work, then I came home and had a really long nap, and now I am sitting on the sofa drinking mimosas and watching more TV.
YAY good day.
Oooh, mimosas.
I meant to cut back on drinking by myself in the new year, but I have half a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge that I could mix with juice...
I didn't do too much today except walk the dogs twice (probably did 5 miles total) and run my niece to the airport. But I got in a nap, which is great, since the dogs keep waking me up at 6:30AM.

I am trying to use up stuff in my fridge, so I juiced some tangerines and oranges, and adding some sparkling wine that has been in my fridge for a while. Nummy drinks, and ueful!
My sister was so fixated on mimosas at Boxing Day brunch that she was sorely disappointed that the included drink was a Strawberry Bliss (they add strawberry puree to the traditional mimosa). She's such a hardcore traditionalist.
I, on the other hand, am a lush who loves fruity bubbles *and* alcohol. Very pleased.
I didn't make egg nog this year because I was sulking. First year in a couple decades I haven't, because I was mad at my father and acted like a 12 year old. A 12 year old not drinking egg nog, unlike the actual 12 year old I was. Hmmph.
