I get confused. I remember everything. I remember too much, and... some of it's made up, and... some of it can't be quantified, and... there's secrets.

Punishingly Intricate

These. These need to be in my life.

Our friend Jules made them! She called them "One Percenters" and they won Best Overall!

Bob won Best Presentation for his windowpanes (colored marshmallows in melted chocolate rolled in crushed pretzels). I'm very proud!

Because books.

meara, could your pilot light be out?

All of those cookies sound amazing. So far I have peppermint mocha, triple chocolate cranberry oatmeal, and butter cookies (cutouts with sugar).

Recipe:

Oven: 400

1.25 c butter, soft 1 c sugar Juice of 1.5 lemons zest of 1 lemon 3 tsp lemon extract 1 egg

Cream together butter and sugar well. Add lemon juice, zest, extract and egg. Mix well

2 c flour 1/4 each salt and baking soda

Slowly mix in dry ingredients.

Chill at least 3 hours, pref overnight

Make balls basically marble sized, maybe a little bigger. Press flat (I use parchment paper over the top and then smash with a glass. I also bake on parchment, because I'm lazy.)

Bake 10 or so minutes until edges start to brown, barely. Let cool slooooowly, to maximize crispness.

Fill with biscoff spread.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

By impulse shopping the sale items at the supermarket, I now have all the stuff to make vw's pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. I want to make them, but don't really have time before I get a crapload of cookies and etc. on Christmas. They will be a January treat, I guess!

The pilot light could be out...I have no idea.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

So it seems Kim Jong Il has died. This is what the North Korean news agencies are reporting.

meara, do you have a home warranty? If so, call them to sort it out and learn shit. I totally used mine as a learning tool in the first year. (How do radiators work, dude?)

lisah's cookies are very good as well, even though she eschewed the lard. I might not leave them to the ravening hoards.

The scores on originality for Bob's cracked me up because I've SO TOTALLY had those before (they are good.) Clearly the judges were not from midwestern stock! Staple of farm potlucks in sw MN!

Nope, no warranty--and I've had the house for about a year and a half now, so that'd be out anyway.

I mostly wanted to make sure that hot water heater problems are still a plumber call, and not some other type person. I can call the plumbers that came out before, they were nice (even if they didn't really find a problem). Had to look up the check I used back then, make sure who it was!

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Someone remind me to be a responsible grown-up type. Because one of the two limited-edition versions of the "Bela Lugosi's Dead" single I covet is currently on eBay at a very reasonable price. I don't need it. I know that. But oh! How I wants it. [link]
