Sophia,

Thanks Sophia. So, those posts were helpful. I am still not sure what is best for me to do in terms of my decision-making.
Is it better for the student not to pass the class and force her to take the class again? She wants to graduate this term, but that proposition will be put off by another term or more if she has to take this class over.
Or is it better to force her to go through some training and rewrite the paper?
Meh. I was up until 2:30 AM. Woken up at some undetermined hour by distressed Clio with her head caught in a bag handle. Got up at regular time but was 25 minutes late for work because I am a slow moving land mammal today.
An article about fernet for you lovers of the stuff: [link]
Le nub, I liked one of the suggestions in that link where the student has to redo the paper in order to pass, but will stll get a zero grade for the assignment. That seems like a decent balance of mercy and consequences, given that it's a student you think merits another chance.
Or is it better to force her to go through some training and rewrite the paper?
This, if she honestly didn't know she shouldn't do that. If she knew darn well what plagiarism is and that it's wrong, and did it anyway? I guess it would depend on her attitude. I might be harsh.
Do you wear the gloves outside of driving?
I wear gardening gloves doing yardwork. Otherwise on the rare occasions I'm outside in the sun, like going for a walk, I'll wear sunscreen. I don't do outdoor sports so it's not a question.
My teenage aversion to lying out in the sun for hours to get a tan seems to have paid off, as my skin seems to me to be pretty good for 52. Avoiding sun damage by accident! Aside from that, it's all genetics, which I can't take much responsibility for.
Yeah, this is me. Refusal to lie out in the sun, plus a night job throughout my 20s that had me sleeping during the sunniest part of the day.
Sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate
Sulfates are very harsh and drying. Curly hair tends to be dry anyway, so they're especially bad for curly hair. Mine looks much better when I avoid sulfates. It's suffering right now because I spent two years dying it red, which was really tough because the gray didn't want to hold on to the color. It's a frizzy mess. I've contemplated cutting it all off and starting over. It would almost certainly be healthier if I let it grow out gray, but I'm just not ready to be gray-haired yet.
I think in this circumstance, having her redo the assignment and still giving her a zero is a punishment without benefit. She would not pass the class if she got a zero for the assignment. it's the final paper and is too much of her grade.
I've found that the Mixed Chicks kids products work great on my hair. (I tried the adult ones, and they worked, but the fragrance was so overpowering that I couldn't stand it.) No 'poo tends to leave my hair a greasy mess, and I've never yet had the patience to see if it would get better in time.
I can pop most of my joints on command. My standard joke is "snap, crackle, pop - play rugby." I have got to get back into yoga, and then maybe add a martial art on top of that when my back is better (pulled a muscle at work). Getting older, does, indeed, suck mightily, and having bad joints does not help.
I still look young for my age, but I expect that to flip at some point. I tanned some when I was younger (in the sun, not a bed), and work outside, and have gotten lazy about sunscreen, and am still smoking on and off. Whoops.
I tried the no-poo thing, and my hair had more body than it had ever had but I developed very itchy dandruff and gave it up. I was washing my hair every 3 days but now I wash every day to get dirt and lead paint and such out.
The strength training program I've been on for the past couple of years has paid off immensely in terms of general well-being and ability to do stuff that was extraordinarily difficult and taxing just a few years ago (moving furniture, flipping mattresses, doing yardwork).
Man, I have gotta get ON THIS. I always have good intentions to start weight training, and then something will happen, like the crazy hip pain, and then I think, well, I should wait to start until my [hip/back/whatever] no longer hurts. And the result is that I never do get around to doing it.
