There's an Old York Rd, because there is a new(er) York Rd. ...that is labelled to as The NEW York Road for several blocks, but it is really known as just York Rd. AKA Greenmount south of 43rd/42nd, cause that's the old city line.
... it really is a city of neighborhoods with distinct identities. As the one settlement grew outward to meet up with another settlement, goddamned if they were going to change the name of the road, as it was the right and true one...
Speaking of mammoths, there's a hypothesis out there that manatees are not related to seals or walruses, but evolved from Caribbean mammoths during the last few Ice Ages.

I once tried to explain to someone that the street I live on - a fairly narrow residential street that crosses a major artery - is one way on both sides, but in opposite directions. On the east side of the major street, it goes east; on the west side, it heads west (so, basically, whenever you're on this street you're headed away from the major artery). They didn't get it.
