Also, met my neighbor's fiance and her dog. I like her and her dog. And am laughing at neighbor because he's always referred to the basement as his mancave, but until his tenants leave at the end of the month, it houses 3 females (daughter, fiance and female dog) and him.

Because books.

The sad thing? A lot of them were married, because they were in the dev group, which is a close-knit community down there at Dam Neck. My SiL knows many of the families and my brother was going out with a few other guys from base to drink at one of the deceased SEAL's favorite bars.

And I just got home from two hours at the nursing home. My mom is still there, but my grandmother is not going to last the night. I hope she doesn't, really -- she was seizing hard for almost two hours, and is full of fluid.

Today has been surreal. And thank you all for your thoughts. I'm worried about my brother -- I know there has to be some survivor guilt there, plus how close those guys get when they're in a glorified tent in Afghanistan for a month. My mom I'm not so worried about -- we've been expecting this for a while. I just hate how hard it is.

Amy, that's a lot to cope with in your family. Be kind to yourself.

Because books.

I actually spent this afternoon before I knew anything about the SEALs making peach cobbler, so I am now having an enormous bowl of same. And just waiting for Mom to call.

Sorry to bring such downer news to Natter. It's been ... a really hard, strange day.

Good can reside with bad. It's how it is. Enjoy the cobbler.

Trust my rage

As far as I knew, there is only one dev group at Dam Neck. Which means that likely many of those guys who died were on the team that killed bin Laden, I'm guessing.

The whole story is so sad. It reminds me of those guys who died on Mogadishu. They were safe and died going in to rescue someone else.

You know, besides the horribly sad loss of life, that is a major loss to the US' strategic SF capabilities. From what I have heard, those guys had skills that take years to develop and don't exist at that level anywhere else.

eta: the NY Times says that the Pentagon says that those guys were not on the bin Laden team, but I highly doubt the Pentagon would give the Taliban the satisfaction of confirming that fact.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Amy, I am so sorry, on all counts. I wish there was more that I could do, but you have all my love and good thoughts headed your way.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Oh, Amy... I am so, so sorry.

The teams assemble and reassemble for different reasons. SEAL Team 6 were, as far as I know, the guys who got bin Laden. I'm unclear if they were on the helicopter or not. But the team my brother shipped out with was.

I just can't stop thinking about their families. Some of the guys had kids. And then I think about everyone my grandmother knew aside from my mom and dad and us kids is already dead. Except her roommate, who held my hand and told me over and over how much she loved Mimi (my grandmother) and that I could use her bathroom if I needed to, or her phone, and what else could she do for me?

I would like to have a drink, but I think not yet.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Oh Amy, how sad! I'm so sorry, sending you warm thoughts.
