Trust my rage

Erin, I missed the conversation last night, but I had to chime in since I'm basically a single mom now and I've been thinking a lot about a will lately. I don't think I'm scared of dying more than anyone else but I do worry now because it means my kids (well, E, F, and the coming baby) would likely be split up.

I *wish* I could specify that my parents raise all 3 if something happens to me, but I know that I can't. I should add here that Joe is not a bad father, but he has never shown me that he has any idea about taking care of the kids on a regular basis. And it is important to me that my kids grow up together. The baby's father is not currently in a place where I would feel comfortable leaving him alone with a baby, or child, but I suspect he feels the same way.

Anyway, after talking to my family lawyer, her take on it was that the best I can do is specify my wishes in the will and then leave any life insurance proceeds in a trust managed by the person I want to care for the kids. So that at least that person (likely my mom or dad) will have some influence in the situation.

Our will (which needs to be updated as it was written before Dillo was born) leaves custody of the kids to mr. flea's sister (who has kids, but we specifically did not mention her husband at all, since he is a drinkbox) but any money from our estate to my sister, who was the executor (well, in a trust for the kids administered by her). We felt like that was a good balance (I'd leave the kids to my sister, but I think it might kill her). Of course, my mother was crushed that we didn't leave custody of the kids to her (which she only found out maybe a year ago), but we had very sound reasons for that, like their mental health. And we figured she is so bossy and determined that whoever had custody she would end up seeing the kids plenty.

Still and all, I hope we don't both die while the kids are minors.

Also, in coincidence mode, I am making a knight costume right now! Well, a tunic. It is mostly done; I need to sew on the side ties, and then we need to figure out what emblem to applique on the front.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

We haven't decided who gets Em if we die while she's still a minor. On one hand, my sister is a great mom and Em loves her. On the other hand, my brother and his wife live a lifestyle that's closer to Joe and I and Em loves them, too.

Anyone here want her? She comes with all our DVDs and comic books.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.
