Our will (which needs to be updated as it was written before Dillo was born) leaves custody of the kids to mr. flea's sister (who has kids, but we specifically did not mention her husband at all, since he is a drinkbox) but any money from our estate to my sister, who was the executor (well, in a trust for the kids administered by her). We felt like that was a good balance (I'd leave the kids to my sister, but I think it might kill her). Of course, my mother was crushed that we didn't leave custody of the kids to her (which she only found out maybe a year ago), but we had very sound reasons for that, like their mental health. And we figured she is so bossy and determined that whoever had custody she would end up seeing the kids plenty.
Still and all, I hope we don't both die while the kids are minors.
Also, in coincidence mode, I am making a knight costume right now! Well, a tunic. It is mostly done; I need to sew on the side ties, and then we need to figure out what emblem to applique on the front.

We haven't decided who gets Em if we die while she's still a minor. On one hand, my sister is a great mom and Em loves her. On the other hand, my brother and his wife live a lifestyle that's closer to Joe and I and Em loves them, too.
Anyone here want her? She comes with all our DVDs and comic books.

When my sibs and I were of an age where it was relevant, I saw in my parents' will that in the event our custody was directed to my "uncles" Roy and Lawrence. I've wondered a bit at how that would have gone over in a late 70s/early 80s context.
OTOH, there wasn't much if any blood family left by that point - my bad grandma, and my uncle Jimmy, who now is fine but at the time was kind of a screw-up and unlikely to make waves.
Getting my husband to make a will and a guardianship plan was not fun. He hates thinking about end of life stuff, whereas I remind him every 6 months (whenever I see the dentist) to make sure he asks the undertaker for the gold out of my mouth.

And I just now realized that I put my post in the wrong thread. Oops.
