Very cool. The first thing I thought of was Fuller's old Dymaxion map. And it turned out the Dymaxion map was one of the inspirations - only this projection is more practical, without the disadvantages of Fuller's idea.

I haven't turned on CNN all day, so I am thrilled that this was not a news item. I keep putting that movie out of my mind, so I really should have made the connection.
I want to know how the millions of us in this country with opposable thumbs could really feel threatened by a league of apes.
