Perkins, you might see if a closer head shop or a Hot Topic has it.
Natter 67: Overriding Vetoes
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, nail polish, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
It's snowing in NC? Just occasional drizzle of rain here. Don't tell my kids about the snow. I told them we might get flurries overnight and they made me promise to wake them if it snowed while they were asleep.
This was a Big Deal because New Orleans doesn't have too much by way of decent ethnic cuisine (except Vietnamese, natch).
New Orleans has a large Vietnamese population? I didn't know that. Why would that be?

I think it's because of the fishing.
(Hmm, some website says teh following:
"Why New Orleans of all places? For one, the sub-tropical climate and proximity to water appealed to the refugees who felt most comfortable moving to an environment that reminded them of home. Also, many of those fleeing were Catholic, and both New Orleans and national Catholic charities were spearheading efforts to help newcomers find jobs and housing in the city. Word got out among Vietnamese refugees that family and friends were settling in New Orleans, making it an even more enticing destination."
Also, maybe because it IS a port city. A lot if Vietnamese refugees used sea travel, rather than plane.
I saw an article a few months ago that the valedictorian at the high school in some Louisiana town (I can't remember where) was the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, and at the end of her speech, she said something like, "Thank you for supporting me and helping achieve this" in Vietnamese to her parents and grandparents, who don't speak English too well. In response, some politician proposed a law that all public school graduation speeches must be in English only.
I'm standing in line to get my book signed by Lynda Barry. This guy pushes to the front of the line to say something to her. It was Matt Groening.
The Vietnamese community in New Orleans is so tight-knit that they recovered pretty quickly from Katrina, even though many of them live in New Orleans East, which was hit hard.

OK, see, this is why I don't like to go to other parts of Louisiana.
Also, I would like to get to Dong Phuong Oriental Bakery for a bahn mi and pho and some pastries.
