I just got back from lunch with him (my nephew Simon, not Nathan Fillion) and my sister, who showed up at my office as a surprise! It was especially nice because I'm the only one in the office today.

I thought the point was that short hair didn't have to be butch. But that ship has long sailed with me, so I could be reading it slantedly. Also, butch doesn't have to be grim, does it?
