USDA uses marketing to try to get Americans to eat more cheese. While also telling Americans to eat less cheese. [link]
Natter 67: Overriding Vetoes
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, nail polish, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I love cheese. They don't have to get me on that bandwagon as I'm already driving it, honking the horn and yelling "CHEESE IS GOOD FOOD!!"
I finished our potluck contribution which includes shepherd's pie and ANZAC biscuits. I'm feeling very thematic.
Now I want some cheese. Maybe I'll make myself a microwave quesadilla.
I love cheese, but stuff like cheese-stuffed crust pizza and super-de-duper-de-cheesy Taco Bell, no. There's good cheese and bad cheese, people!
Kat
For the ANZAC biscuits, did you use golden syrup? Where did you find it? I have a recipe that uses honey but have been told that golden syrup makes a big difference in the taste and was wondering if it is readily available.
I don't need to be encouraged to eat more cheese either. mmmm.
So my student wrote a pretty great paper on dietary fats. Oddly enough, the thesis kind of fits with eat more cheese! Don't eat too much! The fats in cheese aren't gonna hurt you, but they aren't good for you the way omega-3s are.
lcat have you tried online or at a local British food store? I know they sell golden syrup at some of the local shops around here. Alternately you could try agave syrup?
Closet shopping would be a whole lot more fun if it didn't induce shopping guilt.
I LOVE closet shopping. If I felt well enough to leave the couch, I would be doing that today. (Plus maybe a trip to a thrift store, because I also love thrift shopping.)
I am REALLY TIRED of being unwell. I used the extra hour from the clocks changing to ... sleep.
Back from a rainy roundtrip commute to the East Bay for Emmett's krav class. They want him to take the next test which would move him up to P2, I think. I'm not sure when actual sparring happens.
Dropped JZ and Matilda off at Papou's house, where they'll do some laundry and visit.
I think other parents will vouch for me when I say that 4 years old is the sweet spot for found poetry in kid speak. Articulate enough to describe things but not so acculturated that they know all the tropes.
I had a half pint of raspberries I needed to use or lose the other day so I decided to make a quick raspberry sauce. So I smashed them in a sauce pan with some water, sugar, vanilla and chopped up bits of crystallized ginger. It was boiling away and looked vivid, delumpcious red. Matilda wanted to see it so I lifted her up.
Me: It looks like rubies.
Matilda:
[noting the boil]
And bees. It looks like bubbles of bees.
Incidentally, the raspberry ginger sauce was amazing over HD vanilla ice cream. Sooooo goooood.
In Berkeley I would have known exactly where to find Golden Syrup. But here in South Pasadena, I have no idea. Grocery shopping isn't as fun as it used to be. Although Super King Market is pretty cool.
Raspberry ginger sauce sounds good, Hec.
This is jaw-dropping: Financial manager hits cycling doctor from behind and drives on. Stops later only to call Mercedes auto assistance for his broken side-mirror. And he may not face prosecution because "it could endanger his job" [link]
Last I checked, when I drive recklessly, hit someone and then fail to call an ambulance for that person or report it to the authorities, it SHOULD endanger my job.
