Anya: It's lovely! I wish it was mine! Oh like you weren't all thinking the same thing. Giles: I'm fairly certain I wasn't.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

lcat have you tried online or at a local British food store? I know they sell golden syrup at some of the local shops around here. Alternately you could try agave syrup?

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Closet shopping would be a whole lot more fun if it didn't induce shopping guilt.

I LOVE closet shopping. If I felt well enough to leave the couch, I would be doing that today. (Plus maybe a trip to a thrift store, because I also love thrift shopping.)

I am REALLY TIRED of being unwell. I used the extra hour from the clocks changing to ... sleep.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Back from a rainy roundtrip commute to the East Bay for Emmett's krav class. They want him to take the next test which would move him up to P2, I think. I'm not sure when actual sparring happens.

Dropped JZ and Matilda off at Papou's house, where they'll do some laundry and visit.

I think other parents will vouch for me when I say that 4 years old is the sweet spot for found poetry in kid speak. Articulate enough to describe things but not so acculturated that they know all the tropes.

I had a half pint of raspberries I needed to use or lose the other day so I decided to make a quick raspberry sauce. So I smashed them in a sauce pan with some water, sugar, vanilla and chopped up bits of crystallized ginger. It was boiling away and looked vivid, delumpcious red. Matilda wanted to see it so I lifted her up.

Me: It looks like rubies.
Matilda: [noting the boil] And bees. It looks like bubbles of bees.

Incidentally, the raspberry ginger sauce was amazing over HD vanilla ice cream. Sooooo goooood.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

In Berkeley I would have known exactly where to find Golden Syrup. But here in South Pasadena, I have no idea. Grocery shopping isn't as fun as it used to be. Although Super King Market is pretty cool.

Raspberry ginger sauce sounds good, Hec.

This is jaw-dropping: Financial manager hits cycling doctor from behind and drives on. Stops later only to call Mercedes auto assistance for his broken side-mirror. And he may not face prosecution because "it could endanger his job" [link]

Last I checked, when I drive recklessly, hit someone and then fail to call an ambulance for that person or report it to the authorities, it SHOULD endanger my job.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

That sauce sounds delicious. And possibly dangerous, depending on how accurate Matilda's description was.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

If I have no cake flour, will my regular flour still be ok for a homemade yellow cake?

Because books.

Sure, Allyson. You can always sift it, too.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I would assume so, Allyson, just maybe a little denser. (Is this where I warn you I am only a competent baker?)

Oh, I need to email you later. I talked to the school librarian about a reading and she was very positive, but I need to investigate further.

Loki is currently crying to go out. shakes head.

Unfortunately for him, I'm in the middle of making cauliflower leek soup, so he has to wait.

Need to wash his feet again tonight. Should be fun. He's acting pretty normal now.

Failed dress shopping mission. Got confirmation I have a vet appt Tuesday, but I can't take the day off, I have a monthly meeting that afternoon. I'll just telecommute until the appt and go into work after.

I need to do my annual enrollment crap. Think I am eating it on some money in my FSA. I think there's a bill they missed, but can't figure out what it was.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Yes. If you have some corn starch to mix in, you can use this substitute [link] or just use the all purpose flour, and the cake will be a little less soft than usual.
