Nah, msbelle. It's more like I SHOULD be used to it by now.

Suzi, when you used A&I for your mom's book, did you download the software? I MEAN REALLY? It's taking forever!

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

DH has had a number of minor procedures. Knowing the time helps, but there are so often delays. and i go vaguely crazy and these are minor. I can't imagine if it was my child

Punishingly Intricate

The Childlife person brought her a toy to play with and the nurse brought her a bear in scrubs so Grace could see eveyrthing they were doing -- like taking vitals. Super cute and sweet.

Nice!

Yeah, waiting through your loved one's surgery is not fun. Having WIFI was a godsend...also sushi.

The wait is horrid. I wish they would give a bit more thought to letting the parents know ahead of time of the approximate surgery time and also if the surgeon is going to call mid-proceedure to give you an update. During one of the kid's surgeries I remember getting called up to the waiting room desk to take a call from the surgeon and I freaked the flip out. He just wanted to let me know things were progressing fine, but dang. I hadn't expected that at all.

Suzi, when you used A&I for your mom's book

I did. I don't recall it taking a long time though. My struggle came with uploading the finished book to their site. The final product is gorgeous, but if I want to make another photobook, I'll go elsewhere.

We've been using shutterfly for books and it's been great. This software BLOWS.

Ah that would have been disturbing!

At Hopkins they prepared me pretty well for the amount of communication that would happen during Bob's surgeries. And let me know that I could always just go ask for the waiting room person to check in with the surgical staff.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Yeah, waiting through your loved one's surgery is not fun. Having WIFI was a godsend...also sushi.

My secret shame: when The Boy had his hernia surgery, the hospital was 5 minutes (maybe less) from my comic book store. So, based on the time frame the hospital had given me, I figured I had time to go over to the store and get my comics and be back in the waiting room before the surgery was over. Therefore, I went and got my comics.

You can see where this is going.

Sure enough, when I got back (still within that acceptable time frame), it turns out the surgery had finished early and they were trying to let me know so I could go back and see The Boy.

Now, he was doped up so he didn't know I wasn't there on time, and when I told him later he thought it was funny (and also not surprising), but I still felt bad that I wasn't actually there when he got out of surgery. (I was only 10-15 minutes "late," but still.)

I think I'd be like, "Shouldn't you be working more and talking on the phone less?"

We just got paged to the waiting room. And now we're waiting for the doctor.

Being the coincierge in the waiting room must be the worst job in the world.
