If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Is that like Swedish for "and your little dog too!"?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Is that like Swedish for "and your little dog too!"?

That or "and the horse you rode in on!"

I think I need a drink now.

Because books.

I thought sorrel was a vegetable! You made a drink out of it, ita?

A college friend of mine objected to the phallocentrism of "suck my dick" so adopted "suck my left tittie" complete with hand gestures. Not something I wanted to use (wouldn't use the former really either) but it pops to mind at inappropriate times. Because she used it so much, it is burned into my brain.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

In Jamaica we call a kind of hibiscus sorrel. We make a rum drink out of it at Christmas. In Mexico they drink something similar non-alcoholic year round called Agua De Jamaica. Apparently the Sudanese make a syrupy sweet drink out of it. I think my mother knows how everyone cooks everything we cook in Jamaica.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It's the zing in those Zinger teas, I believe.

Ah. That's a whole other thing then, yeah.
