"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Well, cheaper for the employer. The employee ends up spending more on pre-cooked meals, daycare, possibly a maid once or twice if they can afford it just to keep housework under control.

So EXCITED about "the new normal"!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Why would we care about anyone but the employer?? America is BACK, baby!!!!!

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Vague weekend plans, I haz them! As in, I am LEAVING THE DAMN HOUSE tonight to go to the club. I'm not going to dance, but I'm getting dressed up and going out. (Tonight is the party for a good friend's transition to full-time being a woman. I'm very happy for her.)

Other vague plans include putting up the tree, and seeing SA on Sunday. And maybe baking gingerbread bats.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Agreed. I just did the natural "wtf-could-I-have-prevented-this" guilt thing for awhile since Reed's symptoms began skyrocketing when I was pregnant with Sarah. I recall even wondering if my daily consumption of grapefruit while pregnant was the culprit. Thankfully, I am over all that mommy guilt now.

It's really hard when you get the Dx to NOT beat yourself up and think about every little thing. I get a little miffed when folks assume we're anti-vax because Owen's on the spectrum.

This weekend, we're hosting a holiday round robin (we're doing the middle part). And Saturday we have another holiday party to go to but if we get 10" of snow, it's unlikely we'll go to that.

I just found Owen a Darth Vader Lego alarm clock for Christmas and am stoked! Now, if only Olivia will stay mum until Christmas and not tell him we got it.

Oooh, I was just reading the Hax chat, Jesse! Awesome. Hee. From SATANNNNNN!!

I was really nervous about travelling in October without an up to date TDAP (DTAP? pertussis tetanus diptheria, in whatever order the acronym is) but my doctor's office wasn't vaccinating pregnant women unless we were going to the West Coast.

Yep--I work in pediatricians offices in California. I finally went and got the booster this fall, after knowing I should and putting it off for many months. :)

I'm all for vaccination (WAY for it) but having seen how many shots the poor kiddoes get, I can totally see those parents that want to space it out some (...of course, that means more doctors visits and more chances to lose track and miss one, and as they go more time, more chances to GET something, but).

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

I asked about possible reclassification and was told, "Well, actually, since you're doing strictly academic and research work and no clinical anymore, the scope of your job duties has in fact narrowed and we can't reclassify you." (Grrr)

I then asked about a step increase and was told, "Oh, we can't do anything about that. That's up to your bargaining unit." (Grrr, again. You mean the bargaining unit whose offers were repeatedly shot down at the negotiating table by University officials, the bargaining unit that's been marching and protesting and lobbying in Sacramento and holding sit-ins at the entrance to the Uni president's gated community? At this point, after all these years, I'd have to say that it is emphatically not up to the bargaining unit. It takes two parties to bargain, and the other one ain't doing shit.)
