Oooh, I was just reading the Hax chat, Jesse! Awesome. Hee. From SATANNNNNN!!
I was really nervous about travelling in October without an up to date TDAP (DTAP? pertussis tetanus diptheria, in whatever order the acronym is) but my doctor's office wasn't vaccinating pregnant women unless we were going to the West Coast.
Yep--I work in pediatricians offices in California. I finally went and got the booster this fall, after knowing I should and putting it off for many months. :)
I'm all for vaccination (WAY for it) but having seen how many shots the poor kiddoes get, I can totally see those parents that want to space it out some (...of course, that means more doctors visits and more chances to lose track and miss one, and as they go more time, more chances to GET something, but).
I asked about possible reclassification and was told, "Well, actually, since you're doing strictly academic and research work and no clinical anymore, the scope of your job duties has in fact narrowed and we can't reclassify you." (Grrr)
I then asked about a step increase and was told, "Oh, we can't do anything about that. That's up to your bargaining unit." (Grrr, again. You mean the bargaining unit whose offers were repeatedly shot down at the negotiating table by University officials, the bargaining unit that's been marching and protesting and lobbying in Sacramento and holding sit-ins at the entrance to the Uni president's gated community? At this point, after all these years, I'd have to say that it is emphatically not up to the bargaining unit. It takes two parties to bargain, and the other one ain't doing shit.)
Jessica, TDAP is the adult version. For kids it's DTAP. Dunno why.
I am very PRO VACCINATION, but I have a medically fragile noodle and any cocooning we can provide for her is good. Granted, she blows snot on us pretty regularly so all our sick is from her.
I had a weird preschool moment today. I took the day off to go to yoga and volunteer at Noah's school. The SAHM crowd who are super volunteers made me feel like shit for never being there. Then Noah cried on my way out which he never does. I felt like I was back in middle school.
Now I'm grading papers at Starbucks and enjoying my day off from school. I'll head to yoga as soon as I get the last 7 papers open in browser tabs finished.

That is so not on! If you're lucky enough to get to stay home, don't shit on the parents who go to work.
Cashmere, you know how it is. It was all, "Who are you? We've never seen you before. Oh, other mom's not you, let's go have coffee and we'll pick up stuff to wrap the raffle items. Since she's here for once we can go now."
Um. Yeah. Thanks.

Ugh. Bitchy, self-righteous SAHMs need a smack.

Tumblr just kinda weirded me out. In a pleasant way, but still! One of the old photos of me in my big haired deathrocker phase just popped up on a Tumblr I follow. I don't think I ever posted that photo to Tumblr. It's on the Web, sure, but hadn't been on Tumblr.

Aha, that would explain my confusion.
DUDE!!! Look what Sparky1 and her family just sent me

I'm kicking myself for not asking them to decorate with turkeys.
