Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

Though at the moment I could use "freakin' promote me one lousy job title level that wont' change my job any" -ma, more. And if that DOESN'T happen, I'd need the interviewing....

You and me both.

I third this sentiment. I haven't made the absolute choice to change jobs if it doesn't go through, but it is a possibility.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

'BFF,' 'LMAO' and 'Interweb' Join the New Oxford American Dictionary

The next time someone tells you to stop saying "interweb" instead of "internet," you can tell them it's in the dictionary. It's in the New Oxford American Dictionary, to be precise. And so are all the other terms we've been using online for years now, including LMAO, BFF, TTYL and defriend/unfriend.

This year's class of new words is like a tribute to the web culture of half a decade ago. The New Oxford American is the young, hip rebel of the dictionary world, and it still can't keep up with the internet's incredible rate of linguistic change. Does anyone else think it's an epic fail that they left out epic fail?

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Okay, mathy people, I need help. I asked students how much something should cost. Several people gave me specific numbers, but a lot of people gave me ranges (i.e. 500-600). How do I express an "average" of the recommendations. I can take the specific numbers and find a mean, but what do I do about the ranges. Do I express that separately (i.e. Of those who suggested a range, the average range was x-y) or do I incorporate those numbers somehow?

Help!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

We are why I get all in a snit about people who disparage internet communities. We have been together through birth and death and marriages and divorces and illness and good fortune. It is not fake people! This is not a fake relationship. I have known you over a decade, as opposed to internet disparagers whom I have only known the merest smidgen of time. Harumph.

Trufax!!!

I was just so stupid on a phone call. Why don't I prepare better for these things????

When I had my psych eval on Tuesday, and the doc asked me about my close relationships, I talked about my family and friends, but then I had to talk about you guys. "I know it's an online group, but I've been really close with these people for about ten years now, so these are even more people who'll have my back during my surgery and adjustment!"

Vortex, I'd include the middle of the range as one of the things you find the mean of, but I'm lazy.

Yeah, I'd probably do that, and then maybe express some of the result as a range, or say something about a lot of people giving a range, or whatnot. "80% of respondents thought X should cost between $400 and $600, with the average of all responses being $532" or something.
