I signed up for the first level design class in Design and when they found out I was an art major, they tossed me out. I mean that. It didn't matter that I'd signed up and gotten admitted fair & square. They marched me to administration and removed me from the class.
Man, I'm boggling at that. Graphic design was a subset of the Fine Art department at my school and the students mingled pretty freely though of course people favored one or the other depending on their major. And I was the most pointedly drawing and painting-focused Design student in years since I was training specifically as a professional illustrator.
If something like that had been pulled with me, I'd have told the administrator I dealt with that they'd better find an explicit rule in the school's charter forbidding crossover or they'd be financing my education at a competing university, and a new addition to my lawyer's vacation home.
I tried to fight but not hard enough, I guess. It was utter bullshit but typical of my time at UCLA. Good school but had some messed up stuff with the art/design divide. (I also wanted to double major but they wouldn't let art majors double in anything but art history.)
Your aunt sounds pretty nifty, sarameg.
I am so sorry to hear about your aunt, sara.
Sophia, is this the one you are looking for? [link]
YES! I am even signed in!
And Spidra, that is messed up. We were pretty bad in the theatre department for being not so friendly to people who were music majors and wanted to do the dreaded "musical theatre", but the instructors never were.
For some reason, being stopped at a light in front of a polling place full of campaign workers with my windows down as NPR played the snippet from Evita with Patti LuPone belting out "Screw the middle classes!" struck me as completely hilarious this morning. Like, near tears choking hilarious.
Gonna leave work early and hit my polling place on the way to the Y.
It's primary day here too, and I don't know if I even have any competitive races on my ballot, but I will vote!
I voted at 7:30 this morning and one of the new scanner machines was already broken. Bring back the ker-THUNK levers!!
Yeesh. Apparently a guy walking his dog found a decapitated body on the grounds of a middle school in Evanston.
I don't think we have any primaries going on. I hope not, as I know nothing about any races.
We have an appt with what I hope will be our new psychiatrist today.
I barely did any work yesterday, so I need to get busy, I guess.
So on my bike ride to work there were all these police when I got to Main St. in Evanston. They had a bunch of streets blocked off and helicopters were hovering above. I had to ride several blocks out of my way to get to work. Then I found out what the deal was:
Decapitated body found near Evanston school
Yikes!
Sorta' decapitated body x-posty-ish....
