Last week I weirdly ended up correcting my 80-something cousin about family history from the 50s. She thought Dad was a Korean War vet—but he was stationed in peacetime Germany in the late 50s and the only thing he fought during his Army stint was sobriety.
Just FYI, a lot of public libraries subscribe to ancestry.com - though you may have to use it in the library to get it free.

The ancestry stuff is pretty cool. Liese, I know my family hasn't records that were destroyed at Hiroshima, but we have missing stuff due to Japan's invasion of China their subsequent renaming of people.
I am super surprised at the difficulty I'm having with Hawaiian birth records though, for my gram and gramp.
My free trial with ancestry.com ends next week, so I'm going to print off what I have and be done. I know more than I used to!

Yeah, our archives has the same deal. They also have access to our Vital Stats Records DB, which caused a bit of a flap, because it is free from our website, but behind a paywall at there's. Which is a way of saying, look directly at archives websites.

My mom's side of the family are Finnish. A bunch of family records were destroyed when the Russians burned a Finnish church during WWII.
