Mal: Gotta say, doctor, your talent for alienatin' folk is near miraculous. Simon: Yes, I'm very proud.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

My dryer hasn't been drying things very well. I thought it was just old. Today while I was outside, it occurred to me to take a look at the dryer vent. OMG LINT. I'm surprised the house hasn't caught fire. I can't fix it because it's on the second floor and I don't own a damn ladder, so now I have to summon a handyman and hope he doesn't take too long to appear. I don't dare use the dryer again until the filter is clean. Seriously, it looks like a bird's nest. I can't believe I never thought to look at it before.

Now I'm wondering if I should take a look at my neighbor's dryer vent too. She never owned a house on her own before, and has previously shown signs of not having a clue how to maintain one. Her house's health is related to mine because we're a duplex, so I have a vested interest in her place not catching on fire either. This is also why I'm halfway-seriously considering buying her house when she puts it on the market someday.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Is it an IKEA piece, Hil? I've usually found not much wrong with their instructions, aside from the need for a third arm to hold things together....

Nope, there's no IKEA near here. I got it from overstock.com, and it does seem like it's well-made, just with horrible instructions. If I were making several of these for some reason, I would totally redo the sequence of what's done when. (The instructions were also clearly written by someone whose native language does not distinguish between singular and plural, but I can usually figure out what it's getting at.)

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Might you have an opportunity to mention to her that your having someone come and clean your vent and ask if they can take a look at hers while they're there, Zen?

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Speaking of people with the last name Perry, Linda Perry was at yoga. ALong with another 35 people in a very tiny studio. We were all on top of each other.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I had another flying lesson today. I also took a bunch of cardboard to the recycling center. Now I can get more stuff into the spare bedroom closet, which should help with the whole cleaning thing.

The Minor Deluge of 2010 may end up with my apartment being cleaner and more organized, which would be nice.

burrell, I do not get why it's not working. Stupid other websites.

Jesse, if you have a groupon for Donors Choose, you should know Sars isn't doing an October Challenge this year (she's holding off until March 2011) and the groupon expires on October 1.

Oh, yes, I plan to, -t. We've shared house-maintenance stuff before, as well as pet sitters!

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

I just took a shower and now feel like a wet noodle. My hands/arms are very floppy with RSI pain. I think I'mma go right back to bed. Productivity later.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, I am definitely of the "it gets worse before it gets better" school of cleaning, with a bad tendency to get stuck in an extended midterm of"worse." Like, right now, with every single box laid out in my living room until I got my attic panels installed. Except I ordered the wrong size, and then one was broken and then...

But! Now they are done. And at some point later today I will have cleanliness with bonus extra storage space!

This morning we hiked the beginning of the backcountry trail at Painted Desert. Down was ok, but up seriously kicked my ass. Literally. My glutes are burning. It was just a lot, with all my muscles still sore from yesterday. But so worth it! It was just gorgeous. Got our money`s worth for our time off. House stuff and music stuff and nature stuff. Now I and Seabiscuit are chilling on the deck and the SO is doing yardwork. It`s been a good weekend.
