Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Went to see Eat Pray Love with friend and friend-who-is-visiting. It was meh (I haven't read the book), but the company was good.

...now roommate and his girlfriend are having really loud sex, and it's irksome.

Dear Hivemind: last night Casper pulled a muscle or pinched a nerve or something in her neck. She has sudden pain, while getting into the bath (but she'd had a dance class with head rolls earlier in the day and was doing backbends in front of the TV). It seems to hurt on one side, right at the base of the skull. If she stays perfectly still she's mostly better, either sitting up or lying down. Ibuprofen doesn't help. Ice and heat both help. No numbness, no fever, no other symptoms.

Suggestions? How long is this likely to last? Should we bother with Orthopedic urgent care down the block, or will they just say "wait it out, now please give us $50"?

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

My mom would have hit the chiropractor with us first. If an adjustment didn't clear it up... well, an adjustment always cleared it up.

They are going to tell you to wait it out, flea.

If heat is helping continue to use heat, not ice. If it's a pinched nerve or even if it is muscular, then there is nothing you can do except posturally -- hold held still, move entire body and not neck to look at things etc

Ibuprofen won't help as there is probably no swelling. Pain meds that deal with the CNS will only help with sleep.

If it is neural or muscular (as it sounds) then the pain should lessen dramatically in three days and resolve in 7, but if it is neural, it's likely there will be recurrence.

(this message brought to you by the person with a recurring cervical disc injury).

Delayed Red Carpet Commentary:

Do not like Heidi Klum's dress: [link] too short. too tight. And it does the psychotic thing of making her thighs look big!

January Jones in an okay dress, terrible hair: [link]

Elizabeth Moss face and hair look good but dress is like a non-dress color wise. Would be beautiful in a green: [link]

Does Kyra Sedgwick look like she's getting even thinner? What's with her Kevin and Bacon? The dress looks like a granny lampshade, but I do love the clutch and the ring: [link]

Anna Paquin looks stubby because of wear the dress hits her hips AND the torredor look on top needs narrower silhouette: [link]

I know someone else hated Hendrick's dress, but I thought the fit was beautiful. She looks good and it's better than a lot of the mistakes she has worn: [link]

Toni Collette: [link] Love you and like the dress. But you look really washed out.

Juliana Marguiless looks extremely not good: [link] Old. Bad hair. Terrible photo. Ugly dress.

Keri Russell: [link] Where are your boobs? A bra might help! Also, you look great if you were going to the Annenberg House at the Beach, but the Emmy's? Nope. you are too old to dress like someone headed out to eat at Shutters on the Beach for a red carpet event.

Lauren Graham WTF? [link] a black and white caftan? Seriously?

Connie Britton: Memo to Heidi Klum...THIS is how you do shiny: [link]

Maura Tierney: [link] I like the dress, love the hair, not crazy about the color, but it looks beautiful on her.

Julie Benz? That's really you? [link]

Amber Riley looks great: [link]

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I am in a rage cycle this morning. as much at myself as mac, I guess. Just every attempt to put a bit of trust in him and take a step towards how a normal family would function seems to blow up in my face. He swore he had no homework, dumbass me decided to take him at his word and not check until Sunday afternoon. He had a science presentation to prepare with a printed page to make and turn in. That was our whole evening. he wasted over an hour fighting about it and then it took 2 hours to do it. So it's done, and then he refuses to go to school this morning. Literally, it is time to walk out the door - I have my purse on my shoulder and keys in my hand and he runs back to his room and gets in bed. Wastes 20 minutes with this routine and then comes out when we have 5 minutes to get to school. I left him in front of the school still working on getting his shoes on. I can't seem to let it go this morning I am furious.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Ugh, it's so hard to get out of a rage spiral.

I just got the funniest picture of my cousin's fiance holding hands with George Bush.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Lauren Graham WTF?

My best guess is she forgot to get dressed and stole a tablecloth when she got there. I really have no other explanation for that look.
