Mal: Okay. She won't be winning any beauty contests anytime soon. But she is solid. Ship like this, be with ya 'til the day you die. Zoe: 'Cause it's a deathtrap.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

While most of the weather wouldn't suit me, I bet I'd love the scale of New England. For the same reasons I love the scale of Northern Europe (I haven't been to Southern Europe or Eastern Europe so I cannot speak of those). I like that there are dense, walkable cities, towns and villages and then BAM you're in the country. Having grown up in LA with its endless sprawl, it's so refreshing. I wish we could go through the West and redevelop things in a pre-WWII pattern of non-sprawl.

Google Maps says San Diego to Portland is 18 hours. And of course, there's never ever any traffic on I-95 on the East Coast, no sirree.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Houston to Las Cruces is only 12.5 hours. Boring hours, no doubt, and I am sure long stretches of no traffic at all.

Our wings are not tired.

The west coast is only three states! The east coast is like 75, 100 states!

See now? That's what ahm talkin' bout.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I like that there are dense, walkable cities, towns and villages and then BAM you're in the country.

That's a lot of what I like about Portland. At least bits that *feel* like country to me.

Google Maps says San Diego to Portland is 18 hours.

You know, that sounds about right distance-wise. I was just trying to think of just California so I was thinking San Diego to Crescent City, but that isn't one freeway straight up like San Diego to Portland (and Seattle). That I5, man.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Most of the 5 through California is plug ugly. I much prefer the 101 when I have the time.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I'm here! Sorry to disappear like that. Got no good answers on the medical mystery but it seems to have resolved itself. We threw a wedding reception for my brother on Thursday so I've been at my sister's place where the internet goes to die. I just had a chance to get online and thankfully skipped the 1000 and some natter posts and realized people were worrying.

Brenda! I am so glad you are not dead! (/Salah in Indiana Jones)

Have you heard the Fuck You song yet? That's the greatest moment of import in the last 1000 posts to me.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Good to see your pixels, brenda!

For a short drive that takes forever, try I81 from Harrisburg PA to Knoxville TN. The longest 550 miles in the world. It's all beautiful mountain scenery, and it's boring as hell.
