Goats just out of kid stage. Cheaper than rabbits, apparently. $40 of goat will feed a 17 foot snake for a month.
That's not too surprising. There's so little demand for goat meat in this country that farmers are always looking for ways to get rid of surplus male kids.

If demand for goat meat is that low, why is it $4.00 a pound (bone-in) everywhere they sell it locally? Supply must be even lower.

I've never lived anywhere you can can goat. If they were selling it in NYC grocery stores in the late '80s, I missed it.
It's hard to find packaged lamb chops here, even.
My neighborhood is heavily Trinidadian, so you can get goat pretty much everywhere.
