Hippocrates is an artist-made 14-inch bear jointed at head, shoulders, and hips, stuffed like a beanbag so his bum is heavy and solid, covered in curly caramel mohair, and with bright shoebutton eyes. He's my "cat substitute" when I don't have an Actual Cat to hold. Virgil is a 1980s vintage 12-inch Hermann chimpanzee, jointed at hips, shoulders and head, with bendable wired arms and legs, covered in chocolate mohair, an airbrushed face with a white mohair beard and black shoebutton eyes. Hippocrates drove with H across the country when we first came out to househunt. He's been with me on vacations and writing retreats and long drives. He's flown practically everywhere I've gone. And Virgil kept him company on the drives out from NC to WA. They're always ready to go whenever I am.

Plus, Timminy, a 10cm Steiff bear, wearing a sweater, is always in my purse. (shrug) Traveling with stuffed animals is *normal*, right?

I can't picture my brother talking about his feelings with other guys. He does that with his wife and me, after much debate and logical wanderings. But last time did get him to call our aunt, even though he didn't have any sort of relationship with her. I guess the "well, so she's better off to DIE never having known you and you get out of feeling sad, but are stuck with what-ifs you could avoid? And by the way, she's really cool to talk to" punctured his logical skull.

I might kinda be really looking forward to Taylor's visit. I'm hoping she hasn't had dinner, cause I kinda want to get her thai food and have dinner talking, sitting at my coffeetable. We'll see.

the someone who was pissy earlier, calmed down, had some tv time, did his wee bit of homework, was lucky enough to have super cool mom play pokemon figures with him for over half an hour, then getting ready for bed had a good cry about missing his NY friends. and he let me comfort him which is not really his norm. poor noodle.
