amyth, I thank you, and my sister thanks you.
I spent my lunch break buying, amongst other things, a cable to charge my phone from my computer.
It doesn't work.
Who threw away the packaging and the receipt before she even got back to the office?
Oy.
I do this to myself.
Shoot. My aunt's computer is acting up. The thing is made of old parts and has trudged on for a long time, but the end might finally be in sight.
I have a spare computer but it's a G5 iMac, and she's used to Windows and very computer illiterate. Is a PPC Mac still viable as a computer for a few years, or is the age of PPC Macs really past. Man I wish it was an Intel Mac.
Kat, I've totally done the mall in the summer thing. Good times.
I am back from the wilds of Cape Breton and a strange family vacation. We were staying in these rented cottages. There are six cottages there, but we were the only renters. Someone was there to check us in on Sunday and then they left and were didn't see them again all week. They just left the office open for us. It was very weird.
I also realized that my mom's dementia is worse than I thought, and she won't talk to the Doctor about it. (nor her deafness nor her cataract) I think some kind of intervention may be necessary.
re: the highway sign--what's the alphabet game? Did I grow up in some mega-isolated community that wasn't tied in to the game-zeitgeist of America?
My local office supply store just called me to tell me my liquid pencil is here! Now my debate is: I have rehearsal at 7 and the store closes at 6. Do I go in town am hour early and then have an hour to kill? Pro: time to hop on free wifi because my 5 gb limit is fast approaching at home. Con: coffeeshops will all be closed by then. Or? Do I go in right now and waste all that midday time and gas because I`m that big a geek and can`t wait to try? Hmm.
Gud, I'd say the PPC's time is done but that doesn't mean it can't be a useful machine. If you treat it like a time capsule and have all the software that was current to its time, I can't see your grandma needing *too* much new that won't be available. Web browsers, word processors, photo apps...those were all available back then.
Oof Sue, that's tough about your mom. Good luck.
My parents hire guys to do their gardening once a week. It's 93F outside and they turned the sprinklers on. What a waste. I'm going to see if my parents are willing to see sense on that one. I'm totally happy to take on the "chore" of turning on the sprinklers once a week at dusk. In other water wasteage, many of the bathroom faucets here leak. Out of curiosity, I closed the tub drain after my shower yesterday to see how much this thing loses. I wish I'd been more scientific about it (noting times, etc.) but in less than 24 hrs, A little more than 10 gallons collected. I bailed it into some plastin bin and need to get it out to water the plants. I wish I knew how to fix the faucets, but in the meantime I want to siphon that water somewhere it won't be wasted.
