I accept full blame for this obsession.
Dude, no! You are not to blame for the vikings. Your interesting facebook companion is like "BUT THE VIKINGS!" and other people are like, bzuh? And then he's like "JFK! VIKINGS!" and other people are, here, have some trufax. And he's all "CIVIL WAR! VIKINGS! WILL NOBODY THINK OF THE VIKINGS!!!"
You are totally not to blame for the vikings.
Are people confusing Manhattan with Valhalla? If you squint they kind of look the same I guess...
Jars, many people have that problem. We call them hipsters.
I'm now COMPLETELY OBSESSED with what the FUCK the vikings have to do with anything?? Because has anyone denied that they were in the Americas before Columbus?
Also, didn't they, you know, leave after they decided it would be a lot easier to just colonize Iceland? Is someone trying to build a Muslim community center on the site of a former Viking settlement?
The issue of free state versus slave state as states were created from the territories was the main thing that pushed South into seceding. The proximate cause was that the South started shooting. The original goal of the North was to preserve the Union, not emancipation. There were a lot of money issues involved, certainly, although the biggest one probably was that the slave holders simply could not see a way to survive economically without slavery.
In other words, what everyone else said, except the Viking part.
I love you all so much. Thank you for existing.

Vikings don't have mosques! They worship Capital One credit cards!

I have to note -- those commercials crack my shit up. Every. Time.
And now, I'm worried as hell about Emeline for tonight. She's modeling for the Girl Scout council kick-off party and the woman who is organizing the girls is Muslim and wears a headscarf with "regular" clothes. She's my Big Boss in GS World and I adore her.
I worry because earlier in the summer Emeline FREAKED OUT at the Mennonite stand at the Farmer's Market. I'm hoping she doesn't freak out at Y's scarf.
Also? I'd be just as worried if Y was wearing Viking horns.
