Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Cooking Q: If I'm making vichyssoise, and it says to add creme fraiche/sour cream right before serving, and I want to freeze some, I should wait to add the cream until defrosting, right?

Right.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm trying to pick out stuff for my new kitchen. I'm once again moving to a place with a kitchen designed for tall people, so I need to buy some storage. The Container Store is like crack. I want all of it!

Nice score, Suzi!

I'm done chemical stripping the top post. Thank god. [link] Involved a lot of contortions. Banisters are going to be a bitch where they cross, though. Got a little paint on the floor under the tape, so will have to refinish that. But I kinda expected that might happen, so I'm not upset.

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

The last two weeks I have gotten both small and large beets from my CSA. I just cooked up and nomed the small ones. Oh, so good. I want to cook up the large ones now, but I really do not need to eat more beets tonight.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

How did you cook it, Suzi? Jesse and I have been discussing beet recipes lately as well.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

but I really do not need to eat more beets tonight.

The results are, at least, interesting if you do.

Mmmm, beets. I have some. I might nom them now.

Just boiled, skinned, a touch of salt and NOM. Original plan was to also boil a couple eggs and put it all together in a salad with my CSA greens. Didn't get that far, obviously.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I just got out of Burrell's car and an old lady talked her way into it. I hope she's not a super secret evil ninja in old lady costume.

I am safe and sound. That poor old lady. She was locked out of her house and needed a ride to a locksmith. We actually got her home and safely inside about an hour before the locksmith managed to arrive, so I'm glad we stayed with her. Sorry for not posting sooner, but my computer was commandeered by the Club Penguin contingent.

Things of note:

I don't think I like beets. They smell wrong to me. But I don't think I've had them since I was wee. I'm kinda mildly suspicious of most starchy root vegs, don't know why.

Latext gloves plus masking tape= A SPECIAL HELL. God, masking tape that won't stick to anything else will stick and stick and STICK to the gloves.

If I don't want to cry in public, I should not tell people how my aunt's quilting sisterhood have all come together to finish her quilts, and the ones for family, a couple who are in their 70s and 80s are hand-quilting. Damn, even now typing that makes me lose it. I don't know why that, in all of this, is the one thing that just guts me. And of course, I forgot this and mentioned it to my hairdresser and waterwork. Sheesh.
