Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I don't remember the creation of TV Tropes involving any other buffista, certainly not two more who had known Gus for decades, and who were there since Salon. The whole story is false, I'm saying.

I'm pretty sure I'm burned out on Gus-related drama still.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

...I don't get it. Why? I mean...how do women access a submarine different from men? Or is it that the men on a submarine don't ...have a bathroom with a door? I'm assuming they have at least one regular toilet that is not a urinal, since men have to shit too. So, that's out. Showers? Only one shower...area? They can't just say "OK, the girl is in the shower now, wait til she's out"? Do the men all sleep in one bunk area? And so they'll have to give women and men space to change clothes? ...I'm really failing to see how this rises to the level of "numerous". Or maybe I'm just assuming that men and women can work together and deal with the differences in their bodies for a little while without freaking out, by being adults. Maybe. Um. ?

They have to put those "whitehouses" in the bathrooms? They take up space. Space is precious on submarines, there may not be room for menstruation.

Heh. Yeah. It was just "Gus" although I know that Sean and I were also admins there when it started up.

So, of course I looked. TVTropes is registered to a "Gu [sic] Straley" of Rice Lake WI (which is right next to Cameron).

I think they should have an all-female-crewed nuclear submarine. That would be awesome.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

ION, I think meteorologists may be a little bit burnt out from this winter:

[link]

The same storm that brought a gentle snowfall across Texas on Tuesday will reach the Northeast in the form of an atmospheric monster with damaging winds, blinding snow, torrential rain, huge waves and flooding.

In the hardest-hit areas, it will seem more like a "snowacane," as a mere blizzard may not adequately describe conditions of this soon-to-be powerful nor'easter.

WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Ooh.

Oh, I just realized why Boston hasn't gotten any of this snomageddon -- it's because I bought cheap snow boots instead of the expensive more galosh-like ones I was look at that one time!

Note that in his bio, Fast Eddie refers to himself as an "IAT" - Irish American Traveller. Like our Somali-Traveller Gus. [link]

brillig

I love the modern online world. I got my car inspected this morning, and I just finished registering it online. I'll print out the temp tag and wait for the decals to be sent to me. How wonderfully 21st Century.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Note that in his bio, Fast Eddie...

Yeah, that sounds like Gus.

My cat just woke herself by drooling on me. I live a glamorous life.

hip deep in pie

Am I wrong in wanting more drama from a former member of this community going on a major sci-fi portal and pretending to have invented it?

That was my first impulse too. But do we really want to end up on Fandom Wank?

And "Fast Eddie" does use "we" in one of the quotes when they talk about Buffistas moving away from Salon.
