So that's my dream. That and some stuff about cigars and a tunnel.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I've never heard "a split" before this conversation.

I've never heard "the splits" before this conversation.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I can't believe I have actually stumbled across a "how do YOU say it?" conversation we haven't had a hundred times.

Coding and Sleeping

I've only heard "the splits".

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Explain why "the splits" would be plural. Is it because you have two legs?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

The same reason "pants" and "scissors" are plural?

ION, my old knee injury has been bugging me again. But now it's happening if I sit for a long time - when I get up, my knee hurts for a few minutes. What's up with that?

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

OK, I will hypothesize that "a split" is in the Northeast, "the splits" elsewhere.

The only context I ever hear "a split" before today was to refer to a house (short for "a split-level"). So I don't think it's a Northeast thing

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

So would you say banana splits?

It's not a word I use very often, but I've never heard the plural in reference to dance or gymnastics.

ETA: Except in the case of "she often does splits in her routine" (but not "the splits").
