"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Not smashing it with my foot would be about as diplomatic as I could be about a Glade plug-in. Most Glade products are the equivalent of spraying teargas at anyone with a fragrance allergy who walks by.

Have people heard about the proposed anti-gay legislation in Uganda?

Rick Warren wonders why there’s so much fuss over the rights of gays.

In recent days, Pastor Rick Warren has come under fire for refusing to condemn an Anti-Homosexuality Bill in Uganda that would make some homosexual acts punishable by death. “[I]t is not my personal calling as a pastor in America to comment or interfere in the political process of other nations,” said Warren. On his Twitter feed, Warren is now trying to change the subject, claiming that “no one” cared when 146,000 Christians died last year (so why should he now care about gay men and women in Africa?):

The Ugandan legislation — supported by a pastor whom Warren has welcomed into his church — would mandate that any person “convicted of gay sex is liable to life imprisonment.” If that person is HIV positive or has sex with a minor or a person with a disability, he or she would be guilty of “aggravated homosexuality” and face the death penalty. The bill also proposes up to three years of imprisonment for anyone who “fails to report within 24 hours the identities of everyone they know who is lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, or who supports human rights for people who are.”

Why do people suck? Why do some people suck so much?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm sure glad Obama picked him to speak at the inauguration. It's important to be inclusive.

Trust my rage

I don't get migraines, but artificial scents are painful to me. They make my eyes, nose and throat hurt, especially the intended to smell clean and fresh scents. It sucks that you have to be the one to say something, but I think it's certainly reasonable. If I were in the office, I'd be thanking you.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

That makes me sick, tommyrot.

"The Family" Behind Anti-Gay Act in Uganda

Africa has increasingly become a battle ground in the global proxy wars led by the American Religious Right. An important dimension of the struggle was discussed yesterday, by Jeff Sharlet, Talk to Action contributor and author of The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power, appeared on the nationally syndicated NPR program, Fresh Air, with Terry Gross. In the course of the interview, Sharlet discussed the role of such prominent Family members in the news as Sen. John Ensign, Rep. Bart Stupak and Rep. Joe Pitts.

Sharlet also revealed that the sponsor of the notorious proposed, Ugandan Anti-Homosexuality Act, David Bahati's is a member of The Family, as are other leading advocates, as well as President Museveni. There is a growing international effort to stop the bill.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You should have a celebration! Give everyone party favors and throw confetti when he arrives!

Well, he moved the meeting location and wasn't going to tell everyone until I suggested it. So he doesn't get fêted yet.

Jamaica has some nasty anti-gay laws on the books. Luckily they're not enforced strictly. The idea that a country is moving to enact them makes me shudder.

I just read that Switzerland has banned the building of minarets because they're militant Islamic symbology. Why can't we all just get along?
