Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. And then I get paid.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

"The Family" Behind Anti-Gay Act in Uganda

Africa has increasingly become a battle ground in the global proxy wars led by the American Religious Right. An important dimension of the struggle was discussed yesterday, by Jeff Sharlet, Talk to Action contributor and author of The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power, appeared on the nationally syndicated NPR program, Fresh Air, with Terry Gross. In the course of the interview, Sharlet discussed the role of such prominent Family members in the news as Sen. John Ensign, Rep. Bart Stupak and Rep. Joe Pitts.

Sharlet also revealed that the sponsor of the notorious proposed, Ugandan Anti-Homosexuality Act, David Bahati's is a member of The Family, as are other leading advocates, as well as President Museveni. There is a growing international effort to stop the bill.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

The Family freaks me right out. So bizarre.

Uganda, man, what a mess.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You should have a celebration! Give everyone party favors and throw confetti when he arrives!

Well, he moved the meeting location and wasn't going to tell everyone until I suggested it. So he doesn't get fêted yet.

Jamaica has some nasty anti-gay laws on the books. Luckily they're not enforced strictly. The idea that a country is moving to enact them makes me shudder.

I just read that Switzerland has banned the building of minarets because they're militant Islamic symbology. Why can't we all just get along?

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

My mother-in-law gave us that Family book over Thanksgiving.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

My boss is down here for the day, and the poor woman is having even worse computer issues than I usually have when I go up to SF. I'm trying really hard to not be schadenfreudeish about it, but I am not doing very well.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I don't get people sometimes.

Coding and Sleeping

The whole "Family" thing makes me a bit skeptical. It sounds a bit over-the-top and I haven't really heard about it from anyone but the one guy. I'm sure there is some religious organization (or whatever) involved, but I'm leery that it's as extreme as portrayed. I could be wrong, but I'm not sold yet.

Anyone supporting that Uganda law is evil though, they may have religious motivations, but that doesn't make any difference.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

OK, I think I've figured out part of the problem with my DVR -- once I delete the recording, it doesn't remember that it ever happened. Which is why I have to cancel the Daily Show a million times a day. Annoying! I guess I could just not erase it until the next day, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Jesse, my DH finally just set the DVR to record DS manually so it would only do it once a day.
