Charities in Houston asking for proof of immigration status before giving donated toys to poor kids.
If the kids had been responsible enough to be born to parents with proper immigration status, then they could have their toys. This seems perfectly reasonable. Sort of like how kids need to learn to select parents who can afford to give them health care.
I thought that the usual answer to the argument that we should help anybody because it's the decent thing to do is, "That's a job for charities, not for the government." I guess it's not a job for charities, either.
And naturally they're familiar with all types of immigration status, like asylee applicant, T-visa, VAWA self-petitioner, PRUCOL...
I'm pretty sure none of that gobbledygook equals AMERICAN.

I clicke don the link about the toys and was not in the least surprised that it was the SA. They just fired one of our tenants from being a bellringer because he wasn't bringing in enough money.
Oh, that's disheartening. I don't know much about them, but I always had the vague sense that they were pretty good (probably based on Guys and Dolls), so I was pleased that they are taking over the old YMCA facility in town. Now I'm gonna have to think about whether I support that or not.
SA also does not provide services to same sex couples.
