I thought that the usual answer to the argument that we should help anybody because it's the decent thing to do is, "That's a job for charities, not for the government." I guess it's not a job for charities, either.

I clicke don the link about the toys and was not in the least surprised that it was the SA. They just fired one of our tenants from being a bellringer because he wasn't bringing in enough money.
Oh, that's disheartening. I don't know much about them, but I always had the vague sense that they were pretty good (probably based on Guys and Dolls), so I was pleased that they are taking over the old YMCA facility in town. Now I'm gonna have to think about whether I support that or not.

I was wondering, do other areas of the country have people putting kruggerands into the SA buckets at Christmastime? That's been a holiday tradition around here since the height of the anti-apartheid protests in the mid-80s. A few show up every season; one was already reported last week.
