Basically, what Hil said. Free-range pork exists (and is deeply awesome, if you eat pork), but it's much less common than free-range poultry. And industrial-scale hog farming is absolutely horrible both in environmental terms and in terms of animal treatment. (Google "hog lagoon". Prepare to gag. Or drive through eastern NC. Gag whether you've prepared yourself for it or not.)
The other factor for a lefty restaurant, depending on the flavor of lefty, is that they may object to the curing chemicals used for readily available cured meats: again, like free-range pork, there are certainly hams that are cured and smoked without a lot of extra preservative action, but it's not the default and the restaurants that serve them tend to brag pretty prominently about "all our cured meats are made for us in our very own smokehouse by $NameOfArtisanDude using pork from $TinyOrganicFarm". If you like pork, cling tightly to such restaurants when you find them. Nom.
That all makes sense. Too bad pigs make the perfect breakfast food, huh?

Yeah. It's about a ten minute walk (or one El stop) from my new place.
I started a load in the dryer, like an idiot. Now I can't go anywhere until it is done. (Contraption leaves the basement easy to break into.)
I'm considering buying ice skates - Dylan loved skating yesterday, so we'll probably make it a weekend activity. Rental skates do horrible things to my knees and arches, and unlike Dylan, my feet aren't going to be a different size every winter for the next 10 years.
So my question to the hive mind is - brand recs? How much should I expect to pay for a decent pair of recreational skates? I can skate forward pretty well but won't be doing anything fancier than that.

I bought a pair for JZ several years ago as a Christmas present. I'll have her check for the brand, but I paid about
$120
for them. But you can get much cheaper pairs, and better deals online.

ION, Turkey soup!
I'm feeling very economical since I made this soup with just the meat on the carcass plus one wing, so I didn't have to hit up my supply of sandwich making turkey. It's pretty rich since I was boiling that bone-meat for a good long time and added some of the skin (for the fat).
