I started a load in the dryer, like an idiot. Now I can't go anywhere until it is done. (Contraption leaves the basement easy to break into.)

I'm considering buying ice skates - Dylan loved skating yesterday, so we'll probably make it a weekend activity. Rental skates do horrible things to my knees and arches, and unlike Dylan, my feet aren't going to be a different size every winter for the next 10 years.

So my question to the hive mind is - brand recs? How much should I expect to pay for a decent pair of recreational skates? I can skate forward pretty well but won't be doing anything fancier than that.

I bought a pair for JZ several years ago as a Christmas present. I'll have her check for the brand, but I paid about $120 for them. But you can get much cheaper pairs, and better deals online.

I'm feeling very economical since I made this soup with just the meat on the carcass plus one wing, so I didn't have to hit up my supply of sandwich making turkey. It's pretty rich since I was boiling that bone-meat for a good long time and added some of the skin (for the fat).

Am back from the con, and am trying to type around Nova, who is being velcro kitty.

Marathon catching-up-on-Natter session. Whew. Looks like T-day was good for most everyone, so that's good. Family drama was NIL this year, to my utter shock, considering my nieces recently decided they hate each other. They were polite and even had fun. They have agreed to be civil when with family, and that, frankly, is good enough for me. ION, the food was excellent (corn pudding has no right to be that good), and a two-hour trip to my sister's house is WAY better than a nine-hour trip. And I've paid for my two days off by spending the weekend working. Oh well.

Traditional eggs benedict has Canadian bacon. I can't remember what part of the pig it's cut from, but it tastes basically like ham.

Just so long as it isn't cut from Canadians. CANADIAN BACON IS PEOPLE!!!!!

Come on now, there's not much better than really gooood chopped liver. If you put some on his bagel he's bound to shape up.

Not a brand rec, but more than one person has told me that if I'm not going to skate fancy schmancy I'm better off with hockey skates than figure skates because they'll be more comfortable.
