There's this poster up at work encouraging coming out at the workplace. It has thumbnail pics of people that did and apparently felt better.
I find that very odd. Especially the photos. I mean, I know that many workplaces have photos of workers who've done things, but aren't they usually work-related?
There's actually a shelf of books in the lunchroom touting coming out at work. I hadn't realised it was a market.
What's the definition of red sauce Italian?
I don't know thing one about wine, but I can tell when a restaurant is talking to my level of savvy.
I have everyblock for my zip code in my RSS feed, so I get to see every time someone yelps a business in my neighbourhood. People are weird, yo.
Traditional American Italian food -- veal parmesan, eggplant parmesan, meatballs, shrimp fra diavolo, things that combine chicken and broccoli. I didn't make it up: [link]
I think most of my Italian familiarity is of the red sauce sort. Except I don't think I eat anything with chicken and broccoli.
I dated a woman who divided Italian restaurants into Red Sauce, White Sauce and Fish.
"What about risotto?" I asked.
"That's different."
As it turns out: lots of regional variation in Italian cooking.
As a general rule of thumb, Northern California tends to have more Northern Italian type food, and the East Coast tends to have more Southern Italian type food.
I had pear-cranberry pie this afternoon! So now I have tasty proof of the existence of pear pie. Which appears to be very filling, as I wasn't really hungry for dinner.

The comments are hysterical -- one of my favorites:
I read some 4 and 5 star reviews by those who used this device successfully to change a baby while driving. On that basis, I bought one. I put my baby on it and drove for over an hour. It did not change. Same baby. I am glad it worked for some people but I will be returning mine. (The steering wheel desk.)

Heh. Yeah. Unified Italy is younger than the United States.
I discovered RSS feeds only this week, ita, and I'm all OMG.
Being out of work is really improving my techgeekery, which isn't high, but still: I've started a blog, gotten hooked up with RSS feeds and switched my browser to Firefox. And if I didn't have to have Windows to run my iTunes, my techgeek BF would have me switched to Ubutu.
I also worked on job applications, cleaned and organized my home office area, and made this week's grocery and menu list (which include Tday, so extra foody.)

I'm sure this is coming from a good place, but it feels icky to me. Like it's putting the onus on the gay person rather than emphasizing creating a safe environment in which the person feels comfortable coming out at work. Probably not articulating it well, but I know I'd be annoyed by such a poster in the workplace.
