Now I'm picturing Daleks invading us just so they can correct our grammar.
"'ALOT' IS NOT A WORD! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!"
'Out Of Gas'
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

We do have some challenges to the Tolkien/Rowlings law in the movie thread.
I agree, but the wiggle room there is the phrase "reasonably faithful" - if you make a brilliant movie out of a crappy book, is it still a reasonably faithful adaptation?
Oh, good, Jesse. Good catch!
if you make a brilliant movie out of a crappy book, is it still a reasonably faithful adaptation?
I'd hope for that possibility. In fact, aren't there some things that might make a book crap that mightn't be limiting factors on a movie, due to differences in media?
No, I can't think of one thing. Just a premise.
This is my favorite:
6. Savage and Hyneman’s Law: Blowing stuff up is fun. Blowing stuff up in the name of science is AWESOME.
ita, DH says those extra syllables are too annoying and might actually kill him, he's going to continue to flout you. If "dub-dub-dub" has to go away, "whu-whu-whu" might take its place.
In fact, aren't there some things that might make a book crap that mightn't be limiting factors on a movie, due to differences in media?
I'm going to agree with this.
Now someone with a better memory than me come up with a supporting example, stat!
Is The Godfather a faithful adaptation of the book?
"Predominately" makes my teeth itch.
("Dominate" is a word too, but it's a noun, not an adjective.)
It's a verb, not a noun.
If, for any reason, anyone peruses a BDSM/kink/fetish-oriented online community/message board/whatever, you will find the DELIGHTFUL presence of many many (MANY) people who identify themselves as the one in charge (top/dom/master), who refer to themselves as (I shit you not) "Dominate." As in "I am a Dominate."
If you cannot exercise your dominance over the English language, then you will NEVER get near me with a flogger, so help me god.
It's been pointed out that this makes me snobby. I call it having standards.
