Yes. Especially in later seasons.

I love all three shows, java. Supernatural is great if you like horror-type stories with an increasingly complex mythology that is inextricably tied to familial relatonships. Friday Night Lights is great if you like real, honest emotions in a show that will tear your heart out but is also not afraid to give characters what they want and make them happy without killing them off three seconds later. Doctor Who is great if you like wacky intergalactic/intertemporal adventures that tend to culminate in the fate of the entire universe being at stake.

Are people who aren't already watching Doctor Who going to love it? That's my reservation, I don't know if it is worth having.

Or sometimes they're quiet like Blink and...I was going to say not remotely wacky, but I forget it has funny bits too. Just freaking freaky. Not to mention The Doctor Dances/The Empty Child.

Also should note Supernatural can also be painfully funny. They're not afraid of the meta, nosirree bob.

I think New Who, or perhaps Doctor #10 are good entry points. People who mightn't have liked Classic Who have been sold on those (like, say, sister mine).

What do you mean? I wasn't watching it when I started, and I loved it. It took some time to get used to the tone, but after I got into it, I was really into it.

I agree that FNL is the one I would recommend without reservations, though. Aside from a subpar second season, there's nothing I would worry about someone not digging.

Yes to both. It was hard to peg DW into a short description, but yeah, I wouldn't want to give the impression that it's a totally wacky show. It does freaky and dramatic very well too.

In tonight's dinner news, I have to note that I totes nailed the linguini with clam sauce. I don't think I've ever got the pasta so perfectly cooked before. (Pretty much a happy accident since I didn't do anything different. Linguini is more forgiving than some other pastas though.) The sauce was really yum. I'm so glad my (long time ago) med-school ex taught how to put those cans of chopped clams to use with just basic ingredients. It's so simple and cheap but it feels like a treat.

That I was SO excited about New Who when it started that I can't tell if people who were not would be as into it. Not that they can't be, but that I can't know, at least not from my own experience. And I am hesitant to base my recommendations on anything but my own experience.

I rec FNL, but I only watch SPN randomly and don't get DW, so my opinions are suspect. But dear god, I love the relationships and characterizations in FNL. OMG.
