"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

A Viggo quote from 2008 regarding movie salary:

MORTENSEN: 'I WON'T CASH IN ON HOLLYWOOD'

American actor VIGGO MORTENSEN has hit out at film stars who sign up to big budget Hollywood projects solely for the pay cheque - insisting he's far too focused on his art to worry about his salary. Eastern Promises star Mortensen is adamant he will never make a film just to fund a luxurious lifestyle, because he prefers working on films that challenge him as an actor - regardless of the budget. He tells Empire magazine, "Certainly I could have made some more money if I'd done what you're talking about, but I mean, how much money does a person need? "I can help my family; I can give money to certain organisations; I can travel on my own. I don't need more than I have. I've been really fortunate."

Always Anti-fascist!

His agent just died, again, having someone link to that.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It totally doesn't surprise me that Viggo isn't working for the paycheque. I have no idea how to find what I read about him skating close to the bone after LotR, but his pickiness being the cause would be in character.

The quote I found said he was running out of money when he took Hidalgo.

Compassionately intolerant

I suppose buying horses for deserving stunt doubles and helping the disadvantaged and funding your own publishing company can do that. Bless him.

I'm imagining (and it's totally my imagination) though that Viggo's 'broke' was a bit like how MC Hammer described his broke. As in, not like mine.

I would think, yeah. Maybe his brother won't get the calf implants this year, but...

I'd hardly equate Viggo and MC Hammer on many planes. While I think their brokes and mine differ, I think, MC Hammer filed for bankruptcy to stop people trying to collect money from him. He wasn't really broke. I think he was always generating income. If Viggo says he wasn't making money, I can buy that. He seems a down to earth sort of a guy. How long before he would start filing unemployment? Well, not like they like actors to do that anyway, Colin tells me.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

LoTR will be on Blu-ray in April 2010.

Why Avatar will suck and everyone will see it anyway.

I'm not knocking down anyone's doors to see it, but the argument that it will suck because Transformers 2 was effects-laden and sucked is more than a bit specious.

Does the backlash backlash have a proper backlash yet?
