Matilda standing up and dancing in her seat
This has been said before, but Matilda is awesome!
"I'm sorry. He just wants more movie."
Awww.
'Out Of Gas'
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I'm so glad to hear you and Matilda loved it so, JZ. Sara is desperate to see it, and I'm excited, too.
It's the first animated movie in a long time I've actively thought about going to. Now, whether that means it's really cool or Shauna just earned her paycheck remains to be seen(although I'm laughing at the thought of Debi Mazar being all Jersey fabulous at Disney, although I think she's awesome.)
Thanks JZ!
DO has some notoriously cranky reviewers, so sometimes it's hard for me to tell whether it's a "no you won't actually like this movie" bad review or a "people are all excited about this so I need to let them know it's not all that" bad review.
I think I will see it. If not in the theater, then as soon as it's out on DVD.
He lived in New Orleans and still has family there. Or do you just mean that you don't think his style suited the film?
I had no idea! Honestly, when I think "Randy Newman + Disney" the word that comes to mind is "palatable." I don't associate his soundtracks with having any distinguishable personality.
Jess, he sings and talks about his unbelievably poignant song about New Orleans here.
Can't listen to it now, but I think I've heard Aaron Neville's cover of it. Totally heartbreaking.
Another thing about the movie; much as with Ratatouille, you'll likely walk out extremely hungry. Sadly, while it's possible to find acceptably good French food in lots and lots of places, it's damn hard to find a perfect beignet in Oakland.

That is sad. I don't think I've had a beignet in a long time. There was a good place in Houston that we went to occasionally.
My husband has been on a beignet kick this week. He has made them 3 days in a row. They are heavenly with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
I've been told Just For You Cafe in SF has good beignets, but I don't have first-hand knowledge with which to recommend.
