"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

ita, that really hit my funny bone for some reason.

There's actually very good reason for Legolas to show up in Mirkwood - he's the son of Thranduil, the king of the Mirkwood elves.

Art Crawl!!!

Exactly. I wonder if we'll see him in that last battle.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think Orlando could stand the work.

LeN, I have to say, I have the visuals of hobbits trying to breakdance, and it's not pretty.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I could Google, but wasn't Legolas canonically imprisoned or something while Bilbo & Co were in Mirkwood? And that's why he's not in the book?

Art Crawl!!!

He was?

In his father's dungeons?

No, I'm mixed up - I'm thinking of Gloin (Gimli's dad), who Thranduil once had imprisoned, hence the distrust between Gimli and Legolas when they met.

I do vaguely recall that Tolkien retconned why Legolas hadn't appeared in The Hobbit, but now I have no idea what the reason was. He was off somewhere doing something.

A quick search showed Orlando displaying skepticism at the idea of appearing in the movie. As much as I adore the character, I don't think the story should be rejiggered to pander to me.

If they just want him in the background somewhere, I'm sure they have enough motion-capture to make that happen without Orlando's involvement. If Legolas is in this movie at all, it should be as an easter egg, not a speaking role.

Doing a wild and crazy battle stunt?
