Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
A a sometime resident of Maine (who once had a juvenile moose in the back yard, in what passes for a major city in Maine), I am going to have to go with That Is Not A Moose. I agree, it's in the nose.
Believe it or not, I haven't actually seen the first Hobbit yet.

Look at all the fun you're missing not having an opinion about the Moose/Elk!
Right?
And looking at the gif, I'd say that's a hart.
For a story primarily about some dwarves and a dragon, this movie seems to have way more elves than it ought.
That was my thought as well. Also, where my Beorn? That trailer needs more bears!
As for Tharanduil's ride, I am going to thread the needle and say they were going for Huge Majestic Stag but in a tragic failure of CGI they created something closer to a Mutant Mooselk.
Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you, go on
Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you, go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the hart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here on my hart
And my hart will go on and on
You're welcome.
Someone find her and smack her. Gently.
Look at the nose. That is not a Moose nose.
It's an Elvish moose, with the customary finer, more attractive features.
