The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

So many lens flares. So much stupid.

This.

Thrive to spite them

This makes me worried for the Star Wars movies. I've thought for awhile that someone needed to take them away from Lucas and try something else. But ... the idea of JJ Abrams doing Star Wars or even another Star Trek just fills me with dread instead of excitement.

I don't get Abrams obsession/overuse of lens flare. It's like his Jar Jar Binks.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I saw FF6 this morning. If you're not a fan of the franchise, this won't make you one. If you're not a fan of Dwayne Johnson either, there's not much for you.

But if you are a fan of car stunts, there's both excellent and impossible to be seen--and there is some TOTAL impossibility. It went all the way past laughing into applause during the movie, though.

AND THERE WILL BE A SEVEN!!!!!

Everyone is remarkably stupid in this movie, but it's refreshing to totally understand what the bad guy was trying to do--motivation 120% clear, no questions to ask there.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I'm trying to talk Beau into seeing FF6. He is not buying it. I haven't seen all the films, so maybe I need to do that first?

The ads completely sold me.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I saw it this morning and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

But if you are a fan of car stunts, there's both excellent and impossible to be seen--and there is some TOTAL impossibility. It went all the way past laughing into applause during the movie, though.

I'm pretty sure everyone in this movie is superhuman. Also, while it didn't match the climax of Fast Five, it was still a wonderful moment when I realized THEY DRAGGED A PLANE DOWN WITH THEIR CARS.

it's refreshing to totally understand what the bad guy was trying to do--motivation 120% clear, no questions to ask there.

Well, clearly he wanted the MacGuffin to sell for money, but I did raise an eyebrow at his tank joyride where he was RUNNING OVER DOZENS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE. There were a lot of points where it seemed like there was a lot of implied death for a PG-13 movie. Like when the plane blew up, I presume the pilot and such died, but they were bad guys so I guess it's fine. I'm still scratching my head over all the fucking people he must have killed with that tank.

I had a feeling that Giselle wasn't going to make it since she wasn't in Tokyo Drift and also they were telegraphing it pretty hard and also she was way more badass in this movie than the last one. Maybe she will come back from the dead! We didn't see a body!

AND THERE WILL BE A SEVEN!!!!!

Yesssssss. With Jason Statham! Let's just get everybody in this thing!

I mean, you don't have to, but I recommend it because they're a lot of fun. This movie does carry the history/future of all five previous movies.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

If you want to do the homework, I'd start with 5, then 1, then 4 then 2 and 3 in terms of material for this movie, and in terms of quality I like the Vin ones better (1, 4, 5, 6).

But really, it's not hard--Vin is a drag racer who led a bunch of car thieves (including his GF--his sister is an excellent driver but doesn't steal or race) that Paul Walker went undercover to bust and ended up on their side. They accumulate more folks into their family as they go along, and Michelle Rodriguez (Vin's GF) is killed in #4 (which is a prequel to #3). At the end of #5, in which they went up against the Rock, they totally intend to retire...

I love the disclaimer at the end that pretty much says "PLEASE. For the love of god don't take any driving tips or tricks from this. They are professionals, and also this is fake as all shit."

P-C, I am not even sure if the collateral damage in this movie is worse than what the good guys caused in #5. When they drag that safe through...Miami, was it?...there's no way a shit ton of people who were just minding their business didn't get killed, never mind the property damage. I can't think of another franchise that fucks up more passers by than this one. It's now a laughing matter for me.

Also, while it didn't match the climax of Fast Five, it was still a wonderful moment when I realized THEY DRAGGED A PLANE DOWN WITH THEIR CARS.

In this one, the plane is about the only thing, including the people, that can't fly. That moment got applause throughout the room.

Oh, and the fight scenes are pretty fun--I hadn't realised Gina Carano is in it, and my only complaint is--if you have Gina, pull her hair back. Let us see that it's her doing all those things. Even if the person she's fighting against is doubled,, enh, whatever. Cash in on what you have. This is also much more her acting speed than the Soderbergh acting vehicle.

The Rock, aka Samoan Thor is totally ridic, in the best possible way. He's precisely the size of huge that I don't think is preposterous, largely because he can clearly move well. The other big guys in the movie looked sillier. They just didn't wear it as well.

For the kind of movie this is (popcorn+steroids) I think it did exceptionally well by women. There are, what, four women with action roles and no screaming or or random "chivalry", no couples are making helpless cow eyes at each other, and no one's choices or genitalia call into question their competence.

I am so freaking delighted that they are going to add the other famous movie driver from the past decade or so to the incredibly long-running franchise. Paul Walker has been in all of them, right (oh, wait, not Tokyo Drift)? Which is good for him, since he really really can't act.

(I am so fucking sad that Han seems to be dead. I didn't see that coming, and I hope it's not true. Come on, 7!)

brillig

Saw Great and Powerful Oz in the dollar movie. Glad i didn't pay full price. Hubby said "It wasn't bad for a Tim Burton movie that Tim Burton didn't make." And the opening music was pretty much all Nightmare Before Christmas. I just watched for Danny Elfman's name to make sure no one was ripping him off.

From everything I've heard Tokoyo Drift is the weakest and you're better off reading the Wikipedia summary than actually watching it.

Heh. Someone has selective memory: he died in Tokyo Drift! He was the best part of that movie, so I'm glad they found a way to bring him back.

The second one is the weakest. I like Tokyo Drift, but mostly because Sung Kang is awesome.

I believe that is the only one I have seen from beginning to end. Man, that is not a good movie.
