I did not know that After Earth was a film by M. Night Shyamalan. Beau *hates* Will Smith, so I knew I wasn't going to see this film in the theater. The trailers made it look unappealing.
But the M. Night shit? Wow. I may not even watch this on TNT.
And Will Smith's character is named: Cypher Raige.
I wondered how something with such a patently ridiculous plot got made! Is he financing the project with his own money, or did he get incriminating pictures of a studio head?
Oh, and Will Smith contributed to the script story.
Matt, I have NO idea, but this may be the definition of a clusterfuck.
I think Will Smith gets anything he wants. He's one of the most bankable stars out there.
Cypher Raige! M. Night is now writing bad fanfic!
I cling to my love of
The Sixth Sense
and even my fondness for
Signs,
but the rest ... Ugh. I didn't want to see this before, and I want to see it even less now. And I *like* Will Smith.
Supposedly he has made assurances that this is not a "twist" movie, so there is that. But in a summer where I've already seen Oblivion, and Elysium and Pacific Rim are coming up too, I'm feeling pretty ok about giving After Earth a miss. One can only handle so many post-apocalyptic action movies set on Earth in one season.
Will AND JADEN Smith. Jaden Smith seems like the worst.
I saw the After Earth trailer today and thought, "Hm. This dialog is very, very Scientology based" and "Hm. Why are they doing those goofy accents?"
M. Night?
That explains it.
I liked The Sixth Sense and love the one of his films that seems most hated, Unbreakable...but I've given up on him in every say since then.
I too wonder how he got a film financed...unless Will wanted the vehicle so badly that his name carried it.
Huh.
