I saw Trek 2 last night, and it's...disappointing. I'm seeing it again tonight (because I don't turn down free movies with pretty boys in them) and I'm mainly curious if the plot makes any sense the second time around. There are a lot of characters in this movie with a lot of very complicated plans, but I'm pretty sure once you untangle them they don't actually work out. (See also, Lost, Alias, and in fact most of the rest of JJA's career. Probably better to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the lens flares.)

There is one major plot point that would have Roddenberry spinning in his grave.

However, Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch are still very very attractive, and so I will enjoy watching them be very attractive onscreen again. And the rest of the cast isn't bad looking either.

For people who don't like 3D, definitely see this one flat. I was in an almost perfect seat near the middle of the theater (I saw it in 3D IMAX), and I was still getting motion sick every time the ship turned around. This is an AGGRESSIVELY three-dimensional 3D movie.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about--not just w/rt Trek, but also Star Wars. I can't believe Disney is handing over SW to Abrams.

I thought it fell apart as soon as I started thinking about it. It was fun in the moment, but speaking from the perspective of someone who's worked with or for the military for much of my career, very little of it was remotely possible. The narrative was awkwardly manipulated in order to get the end-result of that Kirk in charge of the Enterprise with that specific crew, but it broke my suspenders of disbelief several times along the way.

I still feel Avengers and Iron Man 3, for instance, fall apart (it's sad when I feel GI Joe 2 did a better job of painting the antagonist's motives and plans), and I've been told to sit back and enjoy the rides, so JJ's bar will be pretty low.

Yep, be prepared for more of that. Once everyone gets to Point A, the moment-by-moment chain of causality works out fine, but getting everyone to Point A in the first place requires some very fancy hand-waving. And lens flares. So. Many. Lens. Flares.

Oh, dear.

I have been a bit spoiled, sufficiently that I'm not very excited about the movie. I may wait until it shows up at the beer-and-pizza theater.

Iron Man 3 made not one lick of sense, top to bottom. I still liked it!

Star Trek has also kinda never made much sense. Barn doors are open, and the horses are on fire.

It's got an 88% on RT, which is pretty good.

Meanwhile, F&F6 has a 100%, which pleases me. And amuses me, since Before Midnight only has a 94% because one curmudgeon was disappointed.
