I can't go to Kickstarter from work, but what's the rationale for crowdsourcing the funding? It's not like Rob Thomas is some no-name person without connections in Hollywood, you know?
I can't imagine there were a lot of investors lined up to do a VM movie.
I mean, is crowdsourcing paying for the film, or is it paying the salaries of some producers at Warner Brothers?

Of course, Warner Bros. still owns Veronica Mars and we would need their blessing and cooperation to pull this off. Kristen and I met with the Warner Bros. brass, and they agreed to allow us to take this shot. They were extremely cool about it, as a matter of fact. Their reaction was, if you can show there’s enough fan interest to warrant a movie, we’re on board.
It sounds like it is Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell doing the movie, and that Warner Brothers will release the rights to it and/or, if the fans show enough interest that Warner Brothers thinks it can make money, I guess they might give even more.
Battleship got funded by the studio system. IJS.

(Having seen some of the behind-the-scenes stuff for running a Kickstarter, I am now politely skeptical about all of them.)
