If someone is eating lunch and asks me what I'm reading about, and I reply, "Conditions in slaughterhouses," and he then asks for more details, and asks me to define several terms that I'm using, he has forfeited the right to tell me that I should have known better than to tell him about that stuff while he's eating a roast beef sandwich, right? I mean, he had to have known what he was getting into.
(I don't just start talking about this stuff to people who don't want to hear it, because usually, that's just rude. But you can't ask a question and then get upset because it was answered!)
